BIOGAS PROJECT
For several years, su-re.co has developed and designed the most suitable biogas technology to address the needs of farmers. The simple and user-friendly design for household's scale comes at a fraction of the cost of conventional digesters, allowing us to install 84 digesters across Bali, Flores and Java Island.
BIOGAS IN BALI
Since 2016, we have installed 17 biogas in Bali. We keep improving our biogas design to be a user-friendly and long lifetime. Our first project was in Jembrana. Then, we continued to install more biogas for farmers and partners.
Location: Petang, Tabanan, Sibang, Jimbaran, and Canggu.
Funded by: su-re.co, crowdfunding, partners
BIOGAS IN BAJAWA
As a part of Climate Field School in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), in 2019, we installed biogas in Bajawa. We met farmers who were passionate about having biogas in their houses. In Bajawa, sustainable agriculture is one of the prioritized programs, so biogas will meet their needs.
Location: Golewa, Ngada Regency, NTT
Funded by: Crowdfunding, Deutsche Bank
BIOGAS AT OUR OFFICE
As a think-do-be tank we are trying to improve our sustainable projects at our office. With biogas su-re.co project, we aim to develop and implement displaceable-and-sustainable technology to be convenient, cheap and easy to set up in order to produce energy using organic waste.

BLOCKCHAIN CARBON OFFSET
Our Biogas Digester has been our longest gift. With revisions and recalibration, we want to make sure our gifts last. On top of our continuous efforts to improve our design, we are starting our carbon offset by using blockchain technology to further disseminate this gift.
Stay in the loop or contact us for more information!
WHY BLOCKCHAIN?
We care about transparency.
Carbo Offset Certifications are costly, time-consuming, and may not provide actual emission data. By using blockchain we can create a decentralized system to secure our biogas digester data so that it is immutable, hence provide transparent carbon offset value instead of estimations.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Our digesters are equipped with flowmeters to detect gas production [m3] when utilized. We connect this data from the flowmeter into a blockchain system, where no one can manipulate. This way, we can translate real-time gas production data will be into purchasable a carbon offset credits [tonCO2e].
HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE?
We will continue to install our biogas to farmers in rural areas. By purchasing our carbon offset, your support will not only reduce emissions, but support communities of rural Indonesia, all over Flores and Bali.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
SU-RE.CO BIODIGESTER
WHY IS SU-RE.CO’S BIODIGESTER DIFFERS FROM ANY OTHER BIODIGESTERS?
Our biodigester is designed for an easy installation. It is also an easy-to-use biodigester with an easy maintenance routine to keep it in prime condition.
WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND THE CURRENT DESIGN/MODEL?
There were already about 6 designs/models so far. The first one that was made is the Balloon Digester. Then, we created the 2nd prototype in a semi-tubular pillow shape digester. We also tried another system called Flexi biogas by changing the side welding parts and connecting the PVC together as a rectangle. For the current design/model, we use the semi-tubular pillow biodigester with a some new pipes improvements to avoid clogging on the pipes.
WHAT IS THE WORK MECHANISM OF THE BIODIGESTER IN GENERAL?
The mechanism of a biodigester is basically an anaerobic digestion. It’s a cheap and effective process to produce energy by treating organic waste. The feeding steps of the biodigester is as follows :
*for cow manure
Collect cow manure
Combine 1:1 with water
Stir intensely 1-2 minutes
Pour into inlet tube
**for food waste
Collect the food waste
Cut food to <5cm
Mix with 1:1 with water
Pour into inlet tube
WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT AFTER THE WASTE IS "DIGESTED"?
The biogas that is produced can be stored in a storage for daily usage. It can also be connected straight to the stove of the farmer's house through the piping system. It is easier and safer to simply connect the reactor through piping system to the stove.
WHAT ARE THE PARAMETERS TO KEEP AN EYE ON FOR THE BIODIGESTER?
The parameters are feedstock's nutrients, pH, temperature, retention time, and configurations
WHAT TO FEED THE BIOGAS DIGESTER?
For the bottom load: only feed with cow manure. For the top load: feed with chopped food waste
HOW MUCH FEED SHOULD BE ADDED DAILY?
1:1 rasio, a bucket each day
DIMENSION OF BIOGAS DIGESTER?
Bottom and Top load: Total volume 1m^3 , bag size 3,6 m x 1,2 m
HOW TO MAINTAIN BIOGAS DIGESTER?
Make sure there is no sharp objects during installation.
WHAT ARE THE OUTPUT OF BIOGAS DIGESTER?
In general it will produce biogas and slurry. For bottom load design, it will produce 22.54-35.42 MJ / 0.7-1.1L LPG equivalent. This can mean that initially, gas may only last for 20-30 minutes. But overtime, gas can reach up to 1-2 hours per day.
HOW LONG DOES BIOGAS DIGESTER LAST?
Lifespan up to 5 years
WHAT IS THE WAIT TIME FOR THE DIGESTER TO FINALLY PRODUCE BIOGAS?
Under optimum condition the gas will be produced 15-20 days after first feeding. But this varies based on feedstock and the location of installation.
CLIMATE FIELD SCHOOL PROJECT
Our Climate Field School (CFS) is an educational program that works collaboratively with farmers in their communities to build resilience to climate change. Through a collaboration with the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), we are working to combine traditional agricultural knowledge with cutting edge climate science.
CFS BALI (JEMBRANA AND PETANG)
We conducted four Climate Field Schools in 2017-2018 collaborating with (BMKG) in Jembrana, Bali to educate farmers about climate change, biogas, and agriculture. We continued this program in 2019 in Petang, Bali.
CFS NTT
In 2019, we continued our CFS in NTT, collaborating with local stakeholders and representatives. As a part of program, we installed several biogas digesters in Bajawa. We found that the farmers were passionate to install and maintain biogas by themselves and to get training about climate change, biogas, and sustainable agriculture.
ONLINE CFS
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we had to improvise to continue the CFS without meeting in-person. In 2020, collaborating with BMKG Bali, we conducted a hybrid CFS (online and offline) to give training about climate change and biogas for farmers. This online CFS is a good option for other organizations or communities to contribute to the sustainability program.
